Assessment & Placement

Every Child Starts in the Right Group

New gymnasts begin with a free coach-led assessment at ProGym Wan Chai or ProGym Cyberport — or at any of our partner-school venues. The session looks at age, prior experience, and core movement competencies (balance, coordination, body awareness).

The head coach then recommends a starting level — GymTots, Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced or Competitive — and a class slot. Children with previous experience are matched to the level they are currently working at, not pushed back to the start.

Coaches re-assess on every apparatus throughout each term so progression to the next level is decided objectively, not by age alone.

Coach Qualifications & Safety

Coached by Specialists, Not Generalists

All ProActiv coaches hold at minimum a degree or equivalent in a sports-related field, plus many years of experience coaching children. Every coach has a current First Aid certificate and CPR/AED training.

Coach-to-child ratios are kept tight so every gymnast gets individual feedback in every session — typically around 1:5 for younger groups and a maximum of 1:10 for older groups, with a minimum of 3 children required to run a class.

Continuous in-house CPD ensures coaches stay current on safe progression, modern coaching methods and child safeguarding.

Booking & Payment

A one-time HK$50 registration fee covers admin and one ProActiv uniform. Term fees are paid up-front via Stripe (credit/debit card) or PayNow. Sibling and multi-class discounts may apply — ask our team.

Make-up & Refunds

If a class is cancelled by us (e.g. coach illness), we'll arrange a make-up. Missed classes due to your child's absence: up to 2 make-ups per term if you notify us at least 2 hours in advance. We do not offer cash refunds.

Gymnastics Programme FAQs

What age can my child start gymnastics at ProActiv?
Children can start gymnastics at ProActiv from 1 year old in the GymTots programme, which is a parent/guardian-accompanied class focused on movement, balance and coordination. From age 3 children move into our Beginners programme and progress through Intermediate (6+), Advanced (8+) and Competitive pathways.
Do children need prior gymnastics experience?
No prior gymnastics experience is required. ProActiv welcomes complete beginners and places every child in the appropriate level based on age and a short coach-led assessment. Children with previous experience are placed at a matching level so they can continue progressing.
What should my child wear to gymnastics class?
Children should wear comfortable sports clothing such as a t-shirt and shorts or leggings; leotards are welcome but not required. Long hair should be tied back, jewellery removed, and feet bare. All gymnastics equipment is provided at our ProGym facilities and partner schools.
What qualifications do ProActiv coaches have?
All ProActiv coaches hold at minimum a degree or equivalent in a sports-related field, plus many years of experience coaching this age group. Every coach has also completed a current First Aid course and CPR/AED certification.
How do I know my child is progressing?
ProActiv uses a structured progression framework with clear skill milestones at every level. Coaches track each child's development against the framework and provide regular feedback so progression to the next level is decided objectively, not just by age.
Where are ProActiv's gymnastics classes held?
Our gymnastics classes run at our two dedicated ProGym facilities (Wan Chai and Cyberport) and at partner schools across Hong Kong: Kellett School (Kowloon Bay), International Montessori School (Stanley), Shrewsbury International School (Lohas Park) and the Ladies Recreational Club.
